I always long for getaways but find it so hard to actually get away. Our friends over at Alaska Airlines made it a breeze for Chloe and I to head to the desert for a week. Turns out a week is not long enough for Palm Springs and Joshua Tree. (Perhaps a lifetime isn't even long enough...) After hopping on our super short flight from SFO to PSP (so quick I could barely down one mimosa in the land of unlimited mimosas a.k.a. first class), we checked into the magical desert oasis that is Korakia Pensione, a Moroccan and Mediterranean inspired villa. There are two villas (and thus TWO POOLS!) set across the street from one another and right at the base of the hills. Painter, Gordon Coutts, built the first villa in the 1920s to recreate his earlier life in Tangier. I've never been to Morocco but this is exactly how I picture it! Early silent-screen star, J. Carol Naish, owned the 1930s Mediterranean villa across the street. Together they are divine. The muted color palette, the doorways, the restored antiques, the heated pools, the afternoon tea service, the breakfast in the courtyard. Can I go back already???
