CALISTOGA MOTOR LODGE with HOTELTONIGHT
With the temperatures were rising, we checked out the Daily Drop with HotelTonight in search of a refreshing pool and, most importantly, some AIR CONDITIONING. After sifting through our options in Napa/Sonoma area, we booked a spot at Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa, quickly packed our bags and our pup (yay for dog friendly places!), and were on the road to the revamped 1940 motor lodge. If you’re looking for some spontaneous summer fun, check out HotelTonight and use code ERFONG2 for $25 off you first stay.
Located just down the road from the main Calistoga strip, the Motor Lodge has been updated with fun colors, patterns, and furniture but has managed to keep it’s retro charm. The lobby offers rounded glass block windows and a pop of teal with a mid-century sofa that is made to feel like an inviting living room. Though the on-site restaurant is slated to open in 2020, the lobby offers a nice selection of snacks and wine for purchase, along with complimentary tea and coffee daily.
Blue tends to be a theme throughout the property and the rooms are no exception. Sizes range from a Camper King (sleeps 2) to two suite options that can accommodate up to four. The suites have a dining table-turned-bed option reminiscent of my grandparents motorhome. All rooms are dog friendly with a flat $50 fee and offer a complimentary dog bed and welcome bag of treats. The only downside is that dogs are not allowed in the pool area, though we found some hammocks on the property and were able to relax and still hang with Clementine alfresco. Our Camper King had a nice mattress, fluffy pillows, a mini fridge stocked with some very basic complimentary snacks and drinks. The rooms also feature a desk and vintage themed cork board giving off a nostalgic vibe with a jump rope, etch-a-sketch, and hula hoop. Shower products are from their on-site spa, Moon Acre Spa.
There is not just one but a total of THREE pools here all ranging in temperatures fed from the natural springs underground. The largest and coolest pool is generally around 85 degrees, the smaller wading pool is around 95 and the covered spa with jets is above 100. These options are excellent for a full day of wading during pool hours from 9am-11pm. There are comfy lounge chairs and full on beds and couches to choose from. There was plenty of lounge spots available during mid-week though I imagine on busier weekends you’d want to claim a spot early.
No Calistoga hotel is complete without a spa and Moon Acre Spa does it a little different. The mud baths are more like a mud slathering that takes place in the private spa backyard and then ends with a soak in one of their four cute indoor clawfoot tubs. Treatments range from facials, massages, and soaks. I’ll definitely be back for a CBD soak!
Huge thanks to HotelTonight for allowing me some spontaneous summer fun. It was just what I needed post West Coast Craft exhaustion. Some other places I highly recommend for a quick summer road trip are The Sandman in Santa Rosa, Timbercove Lodge in Jenner, The Coachman in Lake Tahoe, Korakia Pension in Palm Springs, Sparrows Lodge also in Palm Springs, Phoenix Hotel (for a hot pool day in SF!). Hope you find some sun and some fun this summer!
